The Generalitat de Catalunya, through the General Directorate of Tourism, awarded yesterday, Thursday May 11, the 2023 Innovation Award to the Bisbal d'Empordà Tourism Office for the Trencadís and Trepara' project t 2022. The proposal, carried out last year by the Tourist Office, served to create a collective ceramic work - placed in the Aigüeta planters and in the Torre Maria gardens - involving tourists and making them participants and knowledgeable about the trencadís and trepa techniques, two very typical techniques in ceramics, which at the same time served to highlight one of the town's main assets: Bisbal Ceramics.
The Trencadís and Trepara’t 2022 project
Given the ceramic tradition of La Bisbal d'Empordà and its international importance, every year the Promotion and Local Development Area of La Bisbal City Council launched activities linked to this discipline to promote the brand Bisbal ceramics. To this end, last summer an activity was created aimed at all audiences and ages in order to involve tourists visiting the two tourist information points open to the public: Torre Maria and Palau Castle.
The Trencadís project was carried out at the Torre Maria tourism office. The aim of the visitors was to be able to participate in this collective work by creating a mosaic - on a ceramic jug - with ceramic pieces of different colors. At the end of the summer, the jug was covered with the different pieces, giving a very interesting chromatic diversity, which is exhibited in the gardens of Torre Maria. On the other hand, at the tourist information point - located in the Castell-Palau de la Bisbal - visitors were encouraged to collaborate in a collective ceramic work using the trepa technique. It is a ceramic decoration method in which, based on a template, the visitors who participated had the opportunity to decorate 10x10 cm or 15x15 cm tiles with different floral motifs. The versatility and simplicity of the ladder made this activity possible. The different tiles created by visitors are placed in the planters on Calle de l'Aigüeta.
The objective of the Trencadís i Trepara't 2022 project was to create a new tourist experience for visitors to the city and make them part of the ceramic tradition and in improving the aesthetics of the town's public streets by incorporating ceramic elements . In addition, every time a visitor with their family participated in the project, they were asked to create a background display of a photo advertisement where they could take a photo with their piece. This action contributed, on the one hand, to the visitors taking away the memory of the moment and, on the other, its dissemination on the social networks of Visit la Bisbal, in order to give greater knowledge of La Bisbal of Empordà and its activity.
