The Palace Castle of the bishops of Girona is an example of Civil Catalan Romanic architecture dating back to the 11-12th centuries. It is the most emblematic building in the city and one of the landmarks for the area. Aside from the castle, the old historic centre of La Bisbal features other treasures: the ward wall of the Palace Castle, the Portal de la Riera , the Pont Vell (Old Bridge), the Call street (former Jewish quarter), churches of La Pietat and Santa Maria, the Voltes or the modernist building El Mundial.

The Palace Castle is currently part of the Route of the origins of Catalonia. A documentary explains the conflicts between the feudal lords and their vassals in medieval times. And the noble floor can be visited thanks to some outstanding virtual historic characters. From the rooftop and more so from the tower, the views over the Emporda region are superb.

The centre of La Bisbal also has other treasures: the ward wall from the Palace Castle's bailey, the Portal de la Riera (the only entrance portal in the city walls that is conserved), the Pont Vell (Old Bridge), the Call (street that belonged to the ancient Jewish quarter), the churches of La Pietat and Santa Maria, the Voltes or the modernist building El Mundial.
